About Us Areas of Experience Current Projects Social Commitment Board of Directors Contact
Brasília Guaíba participates in a very important social action:
The "Learn to Fish" Project.

Founded in 1976 by Mr. Geraldo Tollens Linck, the Linck Technical School focuses training Mechanical Assistants of machines.

This program has the purpose of integrating needy young into the social and professional structure and to give adolescents from low-income families in the surrounding neighborhood the opportunity to learn.

Currently it is called the "Learn to Fish" Project Foundation and has more than 85 units set up in companies throughout Brazil and Brasília Guaíba is proud to be one of them.

Our unit was founded on August 1, 1995 and has a target public of 15 to 18 year-old boys living around our main shop located in the neighborhood of Rincão do Cascalho in the city of Portão, RS.

They study a Professional Initiation course in Electro-mechanics during 1 year always beginning in the month of August and ending in the month of July, at which time the students graduate.

Along with the pragmatic content of automotive mechanics and electricity, the students receive training and presentations on various topics such as driving, protecting the environment, drugs, sexuality, nutrition, personal hygiene, ethics, interpersonal relationships, as well as a basic understanding of computers.

The classes are given in two shifts, which makes it possible for the students to be involved in a practical internship in the company itself, which prepares them to get their first job.

In February/2005 our unit was transferred to Santa Terezinha in the city of Bom Princípio – RS, where the company is installed and can now give opportunity to the young people in that region.

The 12th Class is currently underway and has 15 students. A total of 142 students have been through the course and many of them today have a good job or are small business owners.

That's why we think that it is a good idea to follow the project's philosophy of "teaching to fish" instead of simply "handing out fish".
